Arabic version: أفادت القيادة المركزية الأمريكية بإعادة توجيه 78 سفينة تحت الحصار الإيراني
The United States Central Command (Centcom) announced on Saturday that a total of 78 commercial vessels have been redirected as part of the enforcement of President Donald Trump’s blockade on maritime traffic to and from Iran. According to Middle East Eye, four vessels have also been disabled to ensure compliance with the blockade.
This development comes in the context of heightened regional tensions, which escalated following US and Israeli military strikes on Iran that took place on February 28. These actions prompted retaliatory strikes from Tehran and led to the closure of the crucial Strait of Hormuz, a vital passage for global oil shipments.
Despite a ceasefire that was established on April 8 through mediation by Pakistan, ongoing negotiations have not resulted in a lasting agreement. The United States has maintained its restrictions on vessels that are linked to Iranian ports, continuing its strategy to exert pressure on Iran through maritime enforcement.
