The United States Embassy in South Sudan had condemned the killing of Dr. Daniel Deng Gatluak in oil rich Unity State Bentiu. Through their statement, the Embassy called on the South Sudan Government to ensure the protection of aid workers in the country.

According to the statement, WHO said that many aid workers have been killed so far in South Sudan since the beginning of the war in 2013.  The statement added that 150 aid workers have been killed, and it stressed that there is a need for humanitarian workers to be protected and perpetrators to be brought to justice. However, a source that preferred to remain anonymous due to security issues, has confirmed that it’s not the first time such an incident happens in Unity State. The source also added that these longstanding killings have always occured, and yet leaders avoid speaking about it.

The source also said, “we want the Government to focus on this situation and find a remedy for it so that people can have a peace among themselves and men can move freely.”
