Arabic version: المبعوثون الأمريكيون يسافرون إلى باكستان لإجراء محادثات محتملة مع إيران
The United States is dispatching envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to Pakistan as Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi arrives in the country. This development raises hopes for renewed discussions aimed at resolving the ongoing US-Israeli conflict with Iran. According to Al Jazeera, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt expressed optimism about the possibility of advancing negotiations, although it remains uncertain if the Iranian delegation is prepared to engage in talks.
Iran’s foreign minister indicated that his trip to Islamabad, along with visits to Muscat and Moscow, is focused on coordinating bilateral matters without explicitly mentioning negotiations with US representatives. President Donald Trump conveyed a sense of optimism regarding a potential agreement, suggesting that Iran is making efforts to satisfy US demands, which include the cessation of its nuclear program.
Despite these diplomatic overtures, reports from Tehran suggest that there may not be any direct talks between US and Iranian officials during this visit. A senior Iranian official indicated that Iran is not ready to participate in a new round of negotiations at this time. Previous discussions had not yielded significant breakthroughs, and key negotiators from the last round are notably absent from the current discussions.
The US administration continues to apply pressure on Iran, exemplified by the recent freezing of $344 million in cryptocurrency assets aimed at undermining Tehran’s financial capabilities. Meanwhile, Iran maintains its stance on blocking the Strait of Hormuz until the US lifts its blockade, complicating the path toward potential negotiations.
