According to Al Jazeera, the United States is carrying out its 10th consecutive night of attacks against Iran. Iranian media reported explosions in Sirik, Bandar Abbas, Qeshm Island and Isfahan as the latest round of strikes began.

US Central Command announced the operation on Monday evening, saying the strikes were “designed to further degrade Iranian military capabilities used to attack commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz”. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said it retaliated by launching ground-to-ground missiles at what it described as US HIMARS missile systems stationed at Camp Arifjan in Kuwait.

The developments followed attacks on shipping earlier on Monday. Two Greek-owned oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz were struck, while the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations reported that another tanker had been hit off the coast of Limah, Oman.

Before the night’s bombing began, US President Donald Trump said on social media that Iranian attacks on US military personnel would be paid back “many times over”. On Friday, two US soldiers were killed and a third was reported missing after an Iranian missile struck a military site in Jordan. Another US service member was killed in northern Iraq. Trump also repeated warnings that further Iranian attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz would bring a stronger response.

Separately, Yemen’s pro-Iranian Houthis declared a blockade on Saudi Arabia. The announcement raised concerns that the Yemeni conflict, relatively quiet for four years, could reignite and threaten shipping in the Red Sea.
