Arabic version: الضربات العسكرية الأمريكية تستهدف أهداف إيرانية بعد الهجوم بالطائرات المسيرة على السفينة
The United States has launched military strikes against Iran in response to a drone attack on a commercial ship. This decision follows an incident where the Singapore-registered vessel, Ever Lovely, was struck by an Iranian drone while navigating through the Strait of Hormuz.
According to Al Jazeera, the US Central Command announced that aircraft targeted Iranian missile and drone storage locations, as well as coastal radar sites. This action was described as a powerful response to what the US deemed a violation of a June 17 memorandum of understanding between the two nations.
President Donald Trump characterized the drone strike as a “foolish violation” of the agreement, which aimed to establish a ceasefire and ensure safe passage through the strategically important Strait of Hormuz. The memorandum was intended to initiate a 60-day period during which Iran was expected to facilitate the transit of commercial vessels without charge.
The fragile ceasefire has faced challenges, particularly as Israel has continued military operations in Lebanon. In retaliation to these attacks, Iran had previously threatened to close the Strait of Hormuz, a critical route for global trade. Following the drone strike, Trump expressed concern over the attack on the Ever Lovely, which sustained damage but did not injure any crew members.
The situation remains tense as military operations continue to unfold, impacting global commerce and regional stability.
