Arabic version: الولايات المتحدة تضرب جسورًا في إيران؛ إيران تضرب محطة كهرباء كويتية
The United States carried out strikes on bridges in southern Iran and Tehran responded by attacking a power and desalination plant in Kuwait, expanding the conflict to include civilian infrastructure.
According to ABC News, the US Central Command said it re‑initiated attacks on Iran for a seventh consecutive night with strikes at 10.30pm Friday, Tehran time, saying the strikes targeted “military logistics infrastructure” and were meant to degrade Iranian military capabilities. Iranian state media reported explosions or strikes in Sirik, Ahvaz and Yazd, and said at least five bridges were struck in the south.
Reports said seven people were killed in attacks on bridges in the southern port of Bandar Khamir, where a train station was also hit, and that an airport was struck in Iranshahr further east. Videos verified by Reuters showed rubble and a damaged vehicle on a smashed bridge in Bandar Khamir. Kuwait authorities said one of the country’s power generation and desalination stations had been hit, causing damage, a fire and disruption to many electricity generation units.
At sea, US Marines boarded a tanker near the Strait of Hormuz while Iranian media reported the Revolutionary Guards navy had “targeted” a Thai‑flagged ship. Two oil tankers exploded and caught fire after passing through a mined route south of the strait, the Guards said, and armed men seized another vessel off Yemen. Iran has announced the closure of the strait, and Washington has reimposed a blockade of Iranian ports.
This escalation matters because it has spread attacks to civilian infrastructure and critical shipping routes, affecting energy supplies and regional stability. Benchmark Brent crude rose about 3 per cent and was on track for a third consecutive weekly gain, a movement the report linked to increased political pressure on US leadership. The UN secretary‑general expressed concern about “attacks on civilian infrastructure in Iran and across the region.”
What happens next: US officials said the strikes would continue to degrade Iranian military capabilities, and Iranian advisers warned that if US strikes continue for several more days they would move into a phase of full‑scale offensive operations, risking further escalation.
