According to BBC News, the United States launched strikes on Iran for the 11th consecutive night late on Tuesday, while Tehran warned Washington against targeting its nuclear facilities. US Central Command said the attacks were designed to continue degrading Iran’s ability to threaten commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.

Centcom said US forces targeted Iranian military operations centres, maritime capabilities, aircraft hangars, drone storage facilities and military logistics infrastructure. It accused Iran of attacking more than 30 commercial vessels in the strait during the past three months, saying the attacks had endangered mariners and undermined freedom of navigation. Centcom added that the waterway remained open for commercial vessel transit.

Iranian state media said air defences were activated in Tehran, with explosions also reported in Tabriz, Chabahar, Konarak and Bushehr, where Iran’s only nuclear power plant is located. Kuwait said its air defences were engaging Iranian drone attacks early on Wednesday, while Bahrain and Jordan reported intercepting drone and missile strikes.

President Donald Trump said the next US target could be Pickaxe Mountain, an underground nuclear site near Natanz where Iran is suspected of building an undeclared enrichment facility. Iran’s Khatam Al-Anbiya military command said such an attack would be considered an expansion of the regional war and threatened strikes on US interests and those of its allies and supporters. The conflict has also raised shipping concerns after Yemen’s Houthi rebels threatened a blockade of Saudi ports. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said the war had cost the US about $37.5bn (£28bn) so far.
