Arabic version: أسهم التكنولوجيا الأميركية تتراجع بسبب مخاوف بشأن الإنفاق على الذكاء الاصطناعي
According to BBC News, US technology stocks fell sharply for a second consecutive day as investors questioned whether vast artificial intelligence investment will deliver sufficient returns. The Nasdaq, which includes the largest US-listed technology firms, dropped more than 3.5% in Friday trading.
Intel shares fell by as much as 30%, putting the chip maker on track to lose more than $130bn in value. The company said it planned to increase AI spending despite weaker computer demand. Finance chief David Zinsner said Intel did not expect to generate more cash than it spent this year and forecast fourth-quarter revenue below expectations.
Alphabet shares continued to decline, falling 2.2% in early trading after dropping more than 12% on Thursday. The Google owner said AI summaries placed at the top of search results were affecting its core search advertising revenue. Alphabet expects to spend up to $205bn this year on investments that are almost entirely related to AI.
Amazon, Reddit and Roblox also declined. Amazon shares were down about 1.6% in Friday trading after falling as much as 6% overnight, while Reddit dropped 26% after reporting weaker-than-expected daily user figures and warning that Google’s AI-driven search was reducing referral traffic. Major technology companies, including Meta, Alphabet, Oracle, Amazon and Microsoft, have committed a combined $800.6bn in 2026 spending. Analysts said investors were increasingly demanding evidence that the AI build-out can generate returns.
