According to Al Jazeera, a new Fox News survey found that opposition among registered US voters to the war on Iran has reached a record level, with more than 60 percent saying US military action against Iran was the “wrong decision”. The survey was conducted in mid-September and published on Thursday.

The poll found that 71 percent of voters believe the Trump administration lacks a clear strategy for ending the hostilities. The conflict has contributed to higher inflation and soaring fuel prices, according to the report. Concern over the war’s longer-term effect on US security has also increased.

Forty-seven percent of registered voters said the conflict would make the United States less safe in the long term, up from 39 percent in April. By comparison, 32 percent said the war would make the country safer. President Donald Trump’s overall job disapproval rating stood at 61 percent as the war remained unpopular.

The poll was released a day before in-person early voting begins for the November midterm elections. Early voting will last six weeks, and elections will be held for the US House of Representatives and the Senate. If Democrats win a majority in Congress, they could change the course of Trump’s final two years as president. Trump has sought changes to voting practices, including efforts to restrict mail ballots, pressure election officials to share sensitive voter data and launch a federal investigation into non-citizen voters. He has also promised a $5,000 payment for every adult US citizen if Republicans retain control of both houses.
