Arabic version: متطوع يساعد في تقييد المشتبه به بعد طعن في غولدرز غرين
A volunteer from the community security group Shomrim played a crucial role in restraining a suspect following a stabbing incident in Golders Green, London, which left two men hospitalized. The attack involved Shloime Rand, 34, and Moshe Shine, 76, who are currently in a stable condition. Essa Suleiman, 45, has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in custody.
According to BBC News, Isaac, the volunteer, was driving nearby when he heard a commotion. Upon exiting his car, he noticed a man with blood on his head and soon spotted the suspect armed with a knife. Isaac reported that he followed the suspect along Golders Green Road for about 100 yards while urging bystanders to stay clear of the area.
When police arrived, the suspect became increasingly agitated. Officers deployed a Taser to subdue him, but he continued to grip the knife. Isaac and another volunteer intervened, with Isaac holding the suspect’s ankle to prevent him from escaping. They were eventually able to assist the police in disarming the suspect.
Isaac described his instinct to act in such dangerous situations, emphasizing that volunteers like him are trained to confront threats rather than retreat. He expressed pride in his actions, believing they contributed to the safety of the community.
The Metropolitan Police revealed that the suspect had a history of serious violence and mental health issues, having been referred to the government counter-terrorism Prevent programme in 2020. However, the referral was closed that same year.
