Congratulations to all the ABC finalists and winners in the WA Media Awards.

ABC journalists and teams were awarded for photography, audio news and features, science and environment reporting, regional and community reporting and culture and arts reporting.

A multi award winner on the night was Erin Parke, who is based in Broome with the ABC’s national regional reporting team.

Parke was awarded for “Catching a Fugitive“, a gripping two-part series chronicling tracking a criminal who had spent almost a decade on the run.

She was also recognised for her story on the pandemic-fuelled wave of illegal fishing boats and shared the Culture and Arts reporting prize with Andrew Seabourne for Kimberley Girl.

Parke was also part of the team with Sam Tomlin, Hannah Barry, Hinako Shiraishi and Eddie Williams awarded for their coverage of youth crime in the Kimberley.

Also among the awarded work was Sean Tarek Goodwin’s “In the pits“, exposing problems in mental health services in the Goldfields region.

Jessica Hayes won the Community/Regional Photography category for her body of work.

The New Journalist or Cadet prize was won by Keane Bourke.
