According to BBC News, Wales have made five changes to their starting side for Saturday’s second WXV Test against Japan at Kumagaya Rugby Stadium in Saitama Prefecture.

Flanker Bethan Lewis will make her first start of the campaign after impressing as an impact player in Wales’ 17-0 win in Tokyo last weekend. Co-captain Alex Callender moves to number eight, while Gwen Crabb and Gwenllian Pyrs are promoted from the bench to the pack.

Lleucu George is selected at fly-half ahead of Keira Bevan and will partner Seren Lockwood, who scored two tries in the opening Test. Courtney Keight comes into the midfield for Freya Bell, who suffered a serious knee injury and is expected to face a lengthy lay-off.

Head coach Sean Lynn has again named six forwards and two backs among the replacements. He said the changes were made “to reward the players who finished the job in Tokyo”, adding that competition for places would help Wales improve as a team.

Wales are seeking a second successive victory over Japan and a strong finish to their WXV campaign. They have beaten Japan and South Africa, while narrowly losing to the USA, and moved above Saturday’s opponents to 11th in the world rankings after last weekend’s result. Lynn said Wales must be more accurate and produce a consistent 80-minute performance against a resilient Japan side.

The match is scheduled to start at 07:00 GMT on Saturday, 31 October. It will be available on iPlayer and the BBC Sport website and app, with audio commentary on Sounds, BBC Radio Wales Extra and BBC Radio Cymru.
