According to The Guardian, Australia defeated Japan 56-17 in a rugby union international in Townsville, making it two wins from two against the Brave Blossoms under Les Kiss.

The Wallabies led 21-17 at half-time after a closely contested opening period. Nasser scored a converted try in the seventh minute before Japan replied through Hockings. Taniela Tupou crossed twice for Australia, while Japan’s Saito converted a try to keep the visitors in touch.

Australia pulled away after the break through a series of converted tries. Angus Bell scored in the 51st minute, followed by debutant Massimo De Lutiis in the 59th. Charlie Cale and Harry Wilson then crossed as Japan struggled to sustain the pressure they had created before half-time.

Japan received a yellow card for Harada in the 77th minute for repeat infringements. Australia added a final converted try through Paenga-Amosa after the siren, with Donaldson taking the total to 56 points.

The Guardian reported that Australia were clinical near the line, strong at the set piece and increasingly effective at the breakdown. Carlo Tizzano secured three turnover penalties, while Carter Gordon impressed on his recall at flyhalf. Isaac Henry, making his first start in the centres, and Cale were also noted for their performances.

Australia’s next assignment is a two-match tour of Argentina beginning in a fortnight. The result marked the Wallabies’ first run of three consecutive wins since 2024.
