According to The Guardian, Australia’s Wallaroos completed a three-game sweep of Scotland with a 38-31 victory in Canberra, in a match marked by yellow cards, a red card and accusations of biting that were not verified.
The hosts led 14-0 before Scotland moved 17-14 ahead by half-time after penalties contributed to three successive tries. Australia regained control and reached 38-24 when captain Siokapesi Palu completed a long-range effort. Scotland fought back after Australia lost prop Eva Karpani and centre Cecilia Smith, but could not find a match-tying converted try on the final play.
Australia received four yellow cards. Karpani was sin-binned for a high shot in her 50th-cap match, while teenage fly-half Waiaria Ellis was shown yellow for slowing a Scottish charge late in the first half. Smith received two yellow cards, ending her 34-Test career with a red card. Georgina Friedrichs made biting accusations, but officials found no evidence on review and no bite marks on her forearm.
Smith nevertheless received a standing ovation and a guard of honour from teammates as she retired alongside former captain Emily Chancellor, who finished her 42nd Test after debuting in 2018. The Wallaroos’ win followed earlier victories over Scotland in Sydney and Edinburgh. Australia will next transition to a full-time operation under new coach Sione Fukofuka, who has previously coached Scotland.
