According to ABC News, a Watch and Act bushfire warning was issued on Sunday afternoon for communities in Victoria’s Central Gippsland after an out-of-control fire broke out at Seacombe.
The CFA strongly recommended that residents of Golden Beach, Paradise Beach and Seacombe prepare to leave after the fire began on Longford-Loch Sport Road. By 6:30pm, the CFA said the threat had reduced, but told people not to travel into the area and urged residents, including those in Dutson Downs, to monitor conditions.
The fire is burning south-east along Longford-Loch Sport Road, south-west of Loch Sport, towards Paradise Beach. A CFA spokesperson said crews were sent after smoke was reported at about 1:20pm. By 6pm, 27 CFA vehicles were fighting the blaze and air attack support had been requested. The cause remains unknown.
Authorities closed Longford-Loch Sport Road at the Seacombe turn-off to prevent people entering the area, while allowing people to leave. Loch Sport residents were also warned not to travel south on the road. The CFA advised people to watch for rising wind speeds, wind changes, smoke and poor visibility.
Residents are encouraged to leave if conditions change or they feel unsafe. The CFA said people leaving should take pets, medications, mobile phones and chargers, and noted that further updates would be provided.
