According to BBC News, firefighters in the West Midlands were extinguishing remnants of multiple fires a day after blazes swept across the region during the UK’s hottest day of the year.

West Midlands Ambulance Service said paramedics treated 54 people and took 19 to hospital. In Stourbridge, a grass fire near Stourbridge Golf Club spread across more than 500 acres after crews were alerted just before 13:30 BST on Thursday. West Midlands Fire Service said 19 houses were fully destroyed and 18 damaged.

More than 100 firefighters fought the Stourbridge fire, which led to evacuations. One firefighter was taken to hospital and discharged, while five others suffered minor injuries. Six members of the public were treated for smoke inhalation and a child was taken to hospital. Firefighters continued damping down affected areas and tackling hotspots on Friday.

Other fires damaged homes across the region. Four homes were destroyed in Goldenhill, Stoke-on-Trent, where a man and woman were arrested on suspicion of arson. In Birmingham, fires damaged homes in Castle Vale, Druids Heath and Highters Heath, while three homes and several gardens were destroyed in Willenhall.

The Met Office recorded a maximum temperature of 38C in Pershore, Worcestershire. Fire officials cited tinder-dry conditions, while residents were urged not to use fireworks or disposable barbecues, burn waste, or dispose of cigarettes carelessly.
