YAMBIO: Western Equatoria State’s caretaker governor, Badagbu Daniel Badagbu Rimbasa, has announced plans to install Starlink internet at the Nabiapai Border Screening Centre to improve communication and support efforts to prevent Ebola virus disease from entering South Sudan from the neighbouring Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
The announcement followed a visit to Nabiapai on Saturday, during which the governor, health officials and partners assessed preparedness at the South Sudan–DRC border and identified gaps in preventive measures.
Badagbu said reliable internet access would help health workers and frontline surveillance teams share information and coordinate their response more effectively.
During the visit, he directed the state revenue authority to provide 10 cartons of bar soap to support hygiene among vendors at Nabiapai Market. He also urged partners implementing water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) programmes to supply handwashing facilities and other essential support for traders.
The governor said his administration was taking the Ebola threat seriously and would strengthen preventive measures to protect border communities.
Citing the loss of life caused by previous outbreaks in the region, he called for close cooperation between government institutions, health partners and local communities to reduce the risk of the disease spreading into Western Equatoria.
