A Minns Labor government will build a preschool onsite with the new primary school in South Nowra/Worrigee to help ensure that children in the South Coast get access to a quality early education.

This is a part of NSW Labor’s commitment to build 100 public preschools in its first term of government to help achieve universal preschool education access.

The NSW Liberal-National Government first promised a new primary school in South Nowra/Worrigee before the 2019 election.

Yet 4 years later no construction has begun and there’s still no timeline for completion with the project is still in the planning phase.

The new primary school is set to be built on Holloway Road alongside Shoalhaven High School, which means under a Minns Labor government it will become a preschool-to-Year 12 “Education Precinct” – guaranteeing parents a single drop off for up to 14 years.

The preschool will cater to 50 children.

NSW Labor Leader Chris Minns said:

“We know how fast South Nowra and Worrigee are growing but the infrastructure is not keeping up”

“My fear is that young families are moving into these areas on the promise of new schools that just aren’t being delivered by the NSW Liberals and Nationals.”

NSW Deputy Labor Leader and Shadow Minister for Education and Early Childhood Learning Prue Car said:

“The Liberal-National government talks big on school infrastructure yet fails to deliver for growing communities like South Nowra and Worrigee”

“After 12 years of Liberal-National government, Nowra and the South Coast needs a fresh approach and only a Minns Labor government can provide this”

Labor candidate for South Coast Liza Butler said:

“The proposed Worrigee Primary School was promised by the Liberal Government at the last election. 4 years later, like so many broken promises on the South Coast, there’s no construction, no timeline and no school.”

“The families of South Nowra and Worrigee deserve better, this is one of the fastest growing suburban areas in this electorate attracting young families who need a primary school within reach. I am proud that a Minns Labor Government will commit to building a new primary school with a co-located preschool.”
