A delegation from the World Health Organization (WHO), headed by the WHO’s Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean Hanan Balkhy visited North Sinai on Sunday, arriving in the city of al-Arish on a private plane.
The delegation began its visit by meeting the Secretary General of the Governorate Osama al-Ghandour at al-Arish International Airport.
Ghandour reviewed the efforts made by Egypt in receiving, storing and sending aid to Gaza Strip, as well as receiving wounded Palestinians and treating them in various Egyptian hospitals – all of which Balkhy expressed her appreciation towards.
The delegation inspected humanitarian, food and relief aid trucks in front of the Rafah land crossing gate on the Egyptian side, in addition to visiting the organization’s humanitarian services center in the city of al-Arish.
Balkhy pointed out that WHO continues to provide support and assistance to the residents of Gaza.
She highlighted the importance of diplomatic and cooperative efforts in meeting the humanitarian and health care needs brought by the Gaza war.
The organization remains committed to providing basic support and assistance to the affected population, she assured.
Balkhy further noted the WHO’s commitment to reaching all Palestinians with the assistance they need, in cooperation with all relevant partners, and called for a speedy end to hostilities so that the organization can perform its tasks without hindrance.
