According to BBC News, Mark Williams will play Ali Carter in Sunday’s English Open final after recovering from 5-1 down to beat Shaun Murphy 6-5 in the semi-finals.

Murphy, who won his quarter-final against Judd Trump in a deciding frame, opened a commanding lead on Saturday. However, Williams won five consecutive frames to reach the final at the Brentwood Centre in Essex.

Murphy made a break of 51 in the 10th frame but gave Williams an opportunity. The world number nine compiled 65 to force a decider, then made 69 to complete the comeback. The 51-year-old Welshman is a three-time world champion.

Carter secured his place in the final with a 6-2 victory over China’s Ding Junhui, winning five frames in succession and recording a highest break of 119. The 47-year-old from Essex began the week ranked 25th in the world.

Neither Williams nor Carter has previously reached an English Open final, with both now seeking a first title in the event, which began in 2016. Carter will return to the top 16 in the rankings if he defeats Williams.
