The Vision Splendid Outback Film Festival in Winton has officially commenced, celebrating the 40th anniversary of the iconic film Crocodile Dundee. The gala event attracted notable figures, including actress Delvene Delaney and director Kriv Stenders, who has plans for a new thriller to be filmed in the area next year.
According to ABC News, Winton’s population swells to 2,000 during the festival, as locals welcome visitors and film enthusiasts to the only outback film festival in Australia. The event highlights the significance of Crocodile Dundee, which brought Australian culture to the global stage.
Delaney, who attended the festival, expressed her nostalgia by riding in a restored safari truck from the original film. She emphasized the film’s impact in showcasing the Australian outback to a worldwide audience.
The festival’s sold-out screening of Crocodile Dundee reflects a strong desire among Australians for local content, according to festival curator Gregory Dolgopolov. He noted the importance of investing in domestic productions to meet this demand.
As the festival unfolds, Kriv Stenders shared insights about his upcoming thriller, praising Winton’s unique landscape for filmmaking. He expressed excitement about returning to the area for the new project, highlighting the cinematic quality of the outback environment. Stenders believes that festivals like this foster a communal experience that is integral to the essence of cinema.
