According to Cnbc, Chinese President Xi Jinping said China will take the lead in fostering artificial-intelligence collaboration and development among developing-economy countries through the BRICS bloc.

Speaking at the BRICS summit in New Delhi, Xi said China would pioneer the establishment of a BRICS AI open-source community. He said the initiative would support cooperation on developing and applying large language models, while AI seminars and training courses would be held to help build an open AI ecosystem.

Xi also said China would work to establish a BRICS digital ecosystem cloud platform. His proposals included digital-skills training, technological exchanges and industrial alignment among members of the group.

In addition, Xi proposed creating a BRICS engineer cultivation alliance and a youth exchange program for scientific and technological innovation. The proposals were released in a statement by China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

BRICS was established in 2009 as a counterweight to Western dominance, initially comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. Its membership later expanded to include Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
