According to BBC News, Yoane Wissa scored twice as Newcastle United beat Valencia 2-1 at the Mestalla Stadium in Matthias Jaissle’s first pre-season friendly as head coach.

Filip Ugrinic put Valencia ahead with a curling effort, before Wissa, introduced at half-time, levelled from close range. The forward then struck again after new signing Bazoumana Toure squared the ball for him to finish.

Wissa was rated 8 after a sharp display, while Toure also received an 8 on his debut following his £43m move from Hoffenheim. Toure pressed Guido Fernandes into the error that led to Newcastle’s first goal and set up the second.

Anthony Elanga was described as a bright spark before being taken off on a stretcher after a challenge from Jose Gaya. Newcastle are hopeful the shin injury, described as bruising, is not serious. Jacob Ramsey was rated 8 after an energetic performance that included a clipped pass for an Elanga goal ruled out for offside.

Malick Thiaw captained the side on his 25th birthday, while Aladji Bamba made his first appearance following a move from Monaco worth up to £34m. Henry Johnson, 18, made his Newcastle debut late in the match.
