Alexandria will host the African Under-18 Volleyball Championship for boys and girls from July 20 to 30, 2026, with wide participation from national teams across the continent. The tournament will take place at the Pioneers Club under the patronage of Gohar Nabil, Minister of Youth and Sports, and Eng. Ayman Atiya, Governor of Alexandria.
A large number of African teams will take part, including Egypt, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Burundi, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Rwanda, and Senegal, among others. The continental competition aims to support emerging talent and raise the standard of volleyball across Africa.
MP Aida Ismail, a member of the African Volleyball Confederation’s board and of the FIVB development committee, will chair the local supreme organizing committee, while Captain Hassan Abed will serve as the tournament director.
Aida Ismail expressed her deep appreciation for the strong support provided by the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Alexandria governorate, thanking Gohar Nabil and Eng. Ayman Atiya for sponsoring the event. She noted that Alexandria’s hosting of the championship for the first time is an important milestone in the city’s history of organizing continental competitions.
She also thanked Bushra Hajig, president of the African Volleyball Confederation, for her support of Egypt’s hosting of the tournament and for ensuring all forms of assistance to guarantee the championship’s success and an honorable presentation that reflects the stature of African sport.
Ismail extended her gratitude to Eng. Yasser Qamar, chairman of the Egyptian Volleyball Federation, for his logistical support and his role in providing all necessary resources to make this continental event successful.
The head of the supreme organizing committee confirmed that the local committee is coordinating with the relevant technical and logistical committees to review all organizational aspects, ensuring the tournament is held to the highest standards. She added that the successful staging of the championship will befit Alexandria’s reputation as a major sports city and will help strengthen its prospects for hosting more continental and international events in the future.
