According to BBC News, Chanel Fong has been found not guilty of owning an XL bully dog that bit her partner’s father, Keven Jones, causing him to bleed to death. A jury at Caernarfon Crown Court also cleared the 33-year-old of an alternative charge of being the person in charge of the dog at the time of the attack.

Mr Jones, 62, from Chester, died after suffering severe blood loss when he was bitten on the leg by an American XL bully called Cookie. The attack happened at Fong’s home on Holt Road in Wrexham in May 2022, before XL bullies were added to the banned dog list.

The court heard that Mr Jones had been in poor health and was taking methadone and blood-thinning medication. At about 11:30 BST on 23 May, he told Fong he would bring Cookie and another dog in from the garden. He was then heard shouting at Cookie to “get off” him. Fong called for the dog to get down before Mr Jones came towards her “wobbly”, pointed to his leg and said: “he’s got me there”.

Fong called emergency services and attempted first aid, including applying pressure to the wound, but Mr Jones could not be saved. A post-mortem examination found he died from extreme blood loss caused by dog bites. Fong said Cookie belonged to her partner, Joshua Jones, who was not present during the attack. The jury took three hours to return unanimous not-guilty verdicts. Cookie was later humanely euthanised.
