According to ABC News, a woman has died after a car crashed into a restaurant at Westfield Knox shopping centre in Wantirna South, in Melbourne’s east. The crash occurred at about 12.45pm on Monday while the woman was sitting outside the restaurant.

Police said the woman died at the scene and has not yet been formally identified. The vehicle’s driver and a passenger were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. An Ambulance Victoria spokesperson said both were in stable conditions.

A second cafe customer was assessed by paramedics at the scene. Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives are investigating the circumstances of the crash. Victoria Police said they do not believe the incident was intentional.

A crime scene has been established at the shopping centre. Martini and Co said in a social media post that it would remain closed until further notice. Police are asking shoppers or cafe customers who witnessed the crash to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or through its website.
