Arabic version: وو ييزي يواجه يوان سيجون في نهائي بطولة شينزن المفتوحة
According to BBC News, reigning world champion Wu Yize recovered from losing the opening frame to defeat Judd Trump 6-1 in the Shenzhen Open semi-finals. The 22-year-old won six consecutive frames at the Bao’an Sports Centre to set up an all-Chinese final against Yuan Sijun on Sunday.
Trump, the world number two and 2019 world champion, began strongly with a break of 77 to take the first frame. However, after a series of errors, Wu seized control of the match. He made three breaks of 50 or more in a scrappy contest before sealing the win with a break of 110. The result avenged Wu’s semi-final defeat by Trump at the Shanghai Masters earlier this year.
Wu will move above Trump and into second in the world rankings after the final. Trump had arrived in the last four in strong form, having beaten Mark Selby 5-0 in the quarter-finals, and had won the Shanghai Masters in August.
Yuan, 26, reached his first ranking final after a 6-5 victory over England’s Jimmy Robertson. Their best-of-11 semi-final went to a deciding frame that lasted 50 minutes and featured 177 points. Robertson recovered 41 penalty points after being put in a difficult snooker on the final red, but Yuan eventually cleared to the pink. Yuan started the event as world number 33 and would move close to the top 16 with victory in the final.
Wu said he hoped the pair could “put on a great match for everyone”, while adding that both players would give everything to win the trophy. Yuan said his first ranking final had come “a little bit late” after difficult years since the pandemic in 2020.
