According to ABC News, XPeng says it will provide support to customers of its former Australian distributor, TrueEV, after a Federal Court case between the companies was dismissed. The Chinese electric vehicle company said customers with appropriately documented and verified eligible cashback or extended-warranty commitments made by TrueEV could receive appropriate support directly from XPeng ANZ.

TrueEV was XPeng’s exclusive Australian distributor under a five-year agreement that XPeng terminated at the start of the year. TrueEV entered receivership in March and challenged the cancellation in court. The case was dismissed after it emerged that TrueEV could not provide the required court surety. TrueEV’s Jason Clarke said the company was disappointed and would review options including an appeal or a new case.

Customers and creditors say they have been left out of pocket. ABC News said it was contacted by 14 customers and creditors, with most customers saying they were owed between $1,000 and $9,000. Some had not received a $5,000 cashback offer, accessories or parts, while others paid for servicing that had been promoted as free for five years.

XPeng G6 owner Prabin Gautam said his vehicle slowed to walking pace and then stopped while he was travelling on the Princes Freeway between Melbourne and Geelong. He said he was unable to open the windows or doors for about seven minutes before moving the car to the roadside. He bought the vehicle in February 2025 for $64,000 from XPeng Port Melbourne, operated by TrueEV, and said a drive-motor problem was identified.

Ultra Tune Australia, which had been contracted to provide servicing and roadside assistance, said it was owed more than $100,000 and had stopped those operations while seeking a solution. Melbourne designer Yibo Li said TrueEV owed him a further $21,410 for marketing work after paying him $4,500.
