Arabic version: أطلق الحوثيون في اليمن هجومًا صاروخيًا على إسرائيل في تصعيد النزاع
Yemen’s Houthis have confirmed responsibility for a missile attack on Israel, marking their first offensive since the outbreak of the Iran war. The attack, which occurred on Saturday morning, involved a barrage of missiles aimed at Israeli targets. The Houthis stated that their operations would continue until the “aggression” on all fronts ends.
According to The Guardian, the Houthis’ involvement raises concerns about potential threats to commercial shipping in the Red Sea corridor as the conflict intensifies. The group, aligned with Tehran, indicated that the missile strikes were a response to ongoing attacks on Iranian infrastructure across multiple regions, including Lebanon and Iraq.
This escalation comes on the heels of an Iranian claim that it targeted a U.S. military support vessel near Oman’s commercial port of Salalah. Iranian officials reported that the port was targeted by two drones, injuring one foreign worker and damaging one of the cranes. The situation has prompted diplomatic discussions, with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif engaging in talks with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to address hostilities in the region.
As regional tensions continue to rise, the conflict’s ramifications extend beyond military engagements, affecting diplomatic relations and security in the Gulf. The Pakistani government has positioned itself as a mediator, facilitating dialogue among nations involved in the crisis, while Iran has proposed its own terms for a ceasefire, including demands for reparations and guarantees against future conflicts.
