Young people across Canterbury-Bankstown are being encouraged to dream big and step boldly into the future as part of its 2026 Youth Week program.
Canterbury-Bankstown Mayor Bilal El-Hayek said this year’s events have been designed by young people, for young people, and celebrate the 2026 theme, “Dream. Dare. Do.”
“For many, Youth Week is about fun – and that’s certainly a big part of it!” Mayor El-Hayek said.
“It’s also a chance for young people to express themselves, tell us what they think and the direction in which they want the world to go.
“That’s a message we’ve heard loud and clear from our 65,000 young citizens, so we’ve made sure to give them the opportunity during this action-packed week.”
For 2026 Young Citizen of the Year and Youth Advisory Working Group member, Lejla Sinanovic, Youth Week is about uplifting all young people and giving future leaders the chance to shine.
“Being named the Young Citizen of the Year was humbling but so meaningful to my work to uplift student voices, as well as the volunteer work that has shaped who I am,” Lejla said.
“It’s a reminder that leadership starts with listening and that impact doesn’t have to be loud to be powerful.
“Being part of CBCity’s Youth Advisory Working Group means I can share my ideas, raise issues that matter to young people and help shape programs and initiatives that impact us.
“I’m so excited for Youth Week because it’s a time when young voices are front and centre and this matters now, more than ever.”
