Arabic version: استئناف محاكمة يونغ فيلي بتهم الاغتصاب
According to ABC News, the first week of UK YouTuber and rapper Yung Filly’s rape trial has concluded in Perth’s District Court. Yung Filly, whose real name is Andres Felipe Valencia Barrientos, denies all 10 charges of rape and assault against a 20-year-old fan.
The prosecution alleges the complainant met Mr Barrientos after his September 2024 performance at Bar One in Perth’s northern suburbs. CCTV shown to the court recorded her entering a Kia Carnival with Mr Barrientos and five men from his entourage. She testified that she believed they were going to an afterparty but travelled instead to the InterContinental hotel in Perth’s CBD.
The court heard the pair had consensual sex before the prosecution alleges Mr Barrientos became aggressive and forceful. State prosecutor Danielle Clarke told the jury the complainant was allegedly bitten, slapped, choked and raped multiple times despite saying “no”.
Defence barrister David Edwardson KC did not give an opening address and has described key parts of the complainant’s hotel-room testimony as “a pack of lies”. His cross-examination focused on events after the alleged incident, including the complainant and her friend attending a music festival later that day, as well as aspects of the police investigation.
Investigating officer Sergeant Melissa James told the court the Uber driver who collected the complainant was not interviewed after failing to return police calls and messages. The prosecution case ended on Friday. The defence is due to begin calling witnesses on Monday, including Mr Barrientos, with the trial before Judge Linda Black scheduled to finish by the end of next week.
