According to ABC News, the Australian Defence Force has paused use of the Supacat troop carrier involved in a training crash south of Darwin that killed Army Corporal Brendan Hannam.

Corporal Hannam died when the vehicle rolled during a training exercise at the Mount Bundey Training Area on Monday. Five other soldiers were injured. Two remain in Royal Darwin Hospital, while two others have returned to Robertson Barracks in Darwin.

Chief of Army Lieutenant General Susan Coyle confirmed in Perth that the vehicle was a “Supacat troop carrying vehicle”. She said it is used in the first brigade and by special forces units.

General Coyle said operational use of the vehicle had been paused while an investigation commenced to determine what, if anything, may have been affected. She said there had been no previous incidents involving the Supacat and described the pause as normal standard practice following a major accident, particularly one involving a fatality.

She also confirmed that Corporal Hannam was not driving the vehicle when it rolled. General Coyle said the unit was supporting his family and that she was organising to visit them shortly.
