According to The Guardian, former Sydney childcare worker Ashley Paul Griffith has been charged with 202 additional child abuse offences in New South Wales. The charges were laid days after his extradition from Queensland and relate to allegations dating from 2014 to 2017, when he was working at a childcare centre in Sydney’s inner west.
NSW police said the charges concern 23 alleged victims aged between one and five. They include 68 counts of rape of a child aged less than 10, 42 counts of aggravated rape of a child aged less than 10 who was under his authority, 69 counts of aggravated indecent assault, and 23 charges of producing child abuse material.
Griffith, 48, was charged while being held at Silverwater Correctional Complex in Sydney. He had arrived in NSW on Wednesday after a Brisbane magistrate approved his transfer earlier in the month.
In Queensland, Griffith was jailed for life in November 2024 after pleading guilty to more than 300 child sexual offences against nearly 70 victims. He admitted to assaulting and filming young girls over a period of years while working at childcare centres.
NSW police assistant commissioner Brett Greentree said the investigation involved collaboration with police across the country. He said the allegations before the court were “deeply disturbing” and involved highly vulnerable members of the community, adding that police were committed to identifying, investigating and bringing before the courts people who exploit positions of trust to offend against children.
