A 16-year-old boy has suffered severe gunshot wounds in a shooting in Birmingham. West Midlands Police said the shooting occurred just before 17:30 BST on Bowyer Road in Alum Rock. The boy was taken to hospital to be treated for “potentially life-threatening” gunshot injuries.

According to BBC News, authorities have stated that, although the incident took place near a mosque, there is currently no belief that the shooting is connected to the place of worship. To address community concerns, local officers will remain in the area to engage with residents.

Investigators were still at the scene on Wednesday night, and police are encouraging anyone with additional information to come forward or contact Crimestoppers. Birmingham city councillor Majid Mahmood, who is a relative of the young person involved, expressed his deep sadness over the tragic event. He urged the community to refrain from sharing any photos or videos from the scene, instead requesting that any relevant footage be sent directly to the police to assist in the investigation.

Mahmood emphasized the importance of community solidarity during such difficult times, stating that compassion, dignity, and respect are vital as the community comes together to support those affected by the shooting.
