Notorious Perth paedophile Bradley Pen Dragon has been released from Hakea Prison under a new supervision order after serving significant time for multiple offences. The 66-year-old has spent almost half his life incarcerated, including a 13-year prison term in Thailand for sexually assaulting a teenage girl.

According to ABC News, Dragon was jailed last year for breaching his release conditions 11 times, including possessing movies featuring children. His release comes as Western Australia’s Child Protection Minister, Simone McGurk, emphasizes the rigorous restrictions imposed on him, arguing that keeping him imprisoned may be unconstitutional.

Dragon’s history includes a conviction for downloading child pornography just two days after being released from prison in 2019. Following his designation as a “high-risk serious offender” in 2022, he was subjected to a 10-year supervision order with more than 60 strict conditions. However, he repeatedly breached these conditions, leading to his latest incarceration.

During recent court hearings, expert testimony indicated that the risk posed by Dragon could be managed with an amended supervision order. Justice McGrath noted that Dragon did not commit a serious offence while previously under supervision, supporting the decision to release him with strict conditions.

Dragon will now be monitored under an amended supervision order consisting of 47 conditions, including electronic monitoring, which will remain in effect until 2032. Minister McGurk acknowledged public concerns but stressed that any further attempts to imprison Dragon without a breach of law could face constitutional challenges.
