The BRICS bloc, which includes Iran, has not issued any formal response to the ongoing US-Israel conflict with Iran, raising questions about its unity. According to Al Jazeera, this silence is notable given the bloc’s previous condemnation of similar actions during the 12-day war last year.

Since India assumed the chairmanship in December 2025, analysts suggest that New Delhi’s growing ties with Israel and the US may be influencing the group’s stance. In contrast to its earlier response, the BRICS organization has refrained from directly addressing the current conflict, termed Operation Epic Fury, which has resulted in significant casualties in Iran.

While three of the five founding members have expressed condolences and condemned violations of international law, India has taken a more cautious approach. The Indian government has called for dialogue and an early end to the conflict but has not condemned the US-Israel actions outright. Critics within India have pointed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Israel as a sign of tacit approval for the attacks.

Meanwhile, South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa and Russia’s President Vladimir Putin have voiced concerns about the conflict escalating beyond the Middle East. Ramaphosa has also offered to mediate in the situation, emphasizing the need for a ceasefire. In contrast, India’s silence and cautious statements have raised eyebrows, suggesting a potential rift within the BRICS alliance over how to address the ongoing violence.
