Carol Kirkwood has officially retired from her position as the main weather presenter on BBC Breakfast after nearly three decades with the corporation. Her departure marks the end of an era for millions of viewers who have followed her forecasts since she joined the BBC 28 years ago. According to BBC News, Kirkwood has expressed how surreal and emotional her final days at the BBC have been.

Kirkwood, who began her career presenting the weather in a significantly different format, has reflected on her journey with fondness. She highlighted the privilege of reporting from various events, such as the Wimbledon tennis championships and Chelsea Flower Show, and noted that she will miss the camaraderie of her colleagues the most. “The thing is you just go to work to do your job – you don’t realise how appreciated you are,” she said.

The 63-year-old presenter, from Morar on Scotland’s west coast, revealed that her decision to retire was influenced by her recent marriage to police officer Steve Randall and a desire to spend more time with him. She had been contemplating retirement for about six months before making the decision, focusing on the importance of enjoying life while she is still fit and healthy.

As she looks forward to her retirement, Kirkwood has plans to travel extensively, with trips to France and Italy already on the agenda. In addition to her travel plans, she is also set to release her sixth romance novel in October and aims to continue her writing career. Kirkwood is ready to embrace a new chapter in her life, filled with freedom and exploration.
