The vibrant community of Bankstown came together on Friday evening to celebrate 26 years of building harmony and diversity at the Children’s Festival Organisation’s annual fundraising dinner, held at the Liberty Palace in Bankstown. The event was attended by prominent political and community leaders, making it a memorable night of cultural exchange, entertainment, and fundraising.
The evening featured special guests, including the Hon. Jason Clare MP, Minister for Education and Federal Member for Blaxland; Tri Vo, Member for Cabramatta; Clr. Bilal El Hayek, Mayor of the City of Canterbury ; and Clr. Rachelle Harika, Deputy Mayor of Canterbury Bankstown. Their presence underscored the significance of the event and the impact the Children’s Festival has had on fostering understanding and unity among diverse communities.
The fundraising dinner showcased a diverse range of performances, including cultural dances from various youth associations and community groups such as the Zahrawi Ukrainian Youth Association and the Vietnamese Community Language School. The audience was treated to a spectacular show that celebrated the rich tapestry of cultures present in Australia.
One of the highlights of the evening was the book launch of Children’s Festival for Australia: A 25-Year Journey, a publication that encapsulates the incredible history and achievements of the festival over the years. The book was unveiled by key dignitaries and organisers, symbolising a new chapter for the festival as it continues to promote inclusivity and multiculturalism.
Guests also had the opportunity to participate in a lively auction, which included a signed a unique Cognac bottle signed by the Hon. Chris Minns, Premier of NSW, and a 15 year old Bonsai tree, raising significant funds to support the festival’s ongoing activities. The excitement continued with a raffle draw, where participants eagerly awaited the announcement of winners, making for a fun-filled and engaging atmosphere.
With a delectable six-course meal, engaging speeches, and a sense of camaraderie, the event succeeded in not only raising funds but also strengthening the bonds within the community. The Hon. Jason Clare MP commended the organisers for their dedication to promoting harmony and understanding through the Children’s Festival, highlighting its role as a beacon of unity.
The evening concluded with a special finale performance by talented singers and dancers, leaving the audience inspired and looking forward to the next chapter in the festival’s journey.
It is also worth mentioning that this year’s Children’s Festival will take place at Playford Park on Cahors Road in Padstow on Sunday, 27 October from 11 AM till 5 PM.
