Chantelle Cameron showcased her boxing prowess by defeating Michaela Kotaskova by unanimous decision, securing the vacant WBO light-middleweight world title at the Olympia in London. According to BBC News, the fight featured three-minute rounds, a departure from the traditional two-minute format in women’s boxing, which allowed the 34-year-old to maintain a high tempo throughout the match.

Judges scored the contest 99-91 twice and 100-90 in favor of Cameron, who expressed her excitement about the victory. “It feels amazing. I’m going back to my family and I’ve got the world title,” she remarked. Cameron, who vacated her WBC light-welterweight title in October due to competing under different rules than male fighters, appeared to thrive in the new format, effectively utilizing the extra minute in each round.

Cameron aggressively pursued her opponent, delivering powerful shots to both the head and body, which visibly affected the previously undefeated Kotaskova. By the fifth round, Kotaskova was showing signs of damage, with blood from her nose and bruising under her eyes. While Cameron eased up in the later rounds, she ended the fight strongly, landing significant hooks and uppercuts in the final round.

Looking ahead, Cameron confirmed her next fight will be against WBA and WBC light-middleweight champion Mikaela Mayer, who watched the match from ringside. “I’ve wanted this fight for ages and we should give the fans a great fight in women’s boxing,” Cameron stated, indicating a desire to bring the bout to Britain.

In a contrasting outcome earlier in the evening, Emma Dolan faced disappointment in her world title bid, losing to IBF super-flyweight champion Irma Garcia by stoppage in the third round. Dolan, who had previously held the British and Commonwealth super-flyweight titles, was unable to withstand Garcia’s experience and power, marking her first defeat in nine professional fights.
