Arabic version: الأزواج يشاركون فوائد النوم في غرف منفصلة
A growing number of couples are opting to sleep separately to improve their quality of rest and enhance their relationships. According to ABC News, 18 per cent of couples sleep separately to get a better night's rest.
Many couples cite common sleep disruptions, such as snoring and restlessness, as reasons for their choice. Lisa, a participant, shared that sleeping apart has allowed her to appreciate her partner more, stating, “We sleep better, like each other more and want to actually spend time together more often.”
Creative solutions for maintaining connection while sleeping separately have emerged. For instance, Colleen and her partner use a “double doona strategy” to avoid blanket disputes, while Kris and her husband utilize two king single beds pushed together to accommodate his restless leg syndrome without disturbing her sleep.
Parents and pet owners also find that separate sleeping arrangements work well for them. Danielle, a mother, mentioned that having their own beds allows them to manage their children's nighttime needs more effectively. Meanwhile, Julie humorously noted that her four dogs occupy the space where her husband would sleep, leading to a peaceful night's rest.
However, not all experiences with separate sleeping arrangements are positive. Greg expressed dissatisfaction, noting that his decision to sleep in a different room was driven by health issues and a lack of intimacy with his wife. This highlights that while many couples find benefits in sleeping apart, the arrangement can also lead to challenges in some relationships.
