Arabic version: حراس الحدود الكوبيون يقتلون أربعة على متن قارب سريع مسجل في الولايات المتحدة
Four people who entered Cuban waters on a US-registered speedboat were shot dead by border guards, according to BBC News. The incident took place near Cayo Falcones, in Cuba’s Villa Clara province. Cuba’s interior ministry stated that the speedboat’s passengers opened fire on a coast guard vessel that approached for identification.
The confrontation resulted in the death of four aggressors on the foreign vessel, while six others were reported injured. These individuals were evacuated and received medical assistance. The Cuban government has initiated an investigation to clarify the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the identities of those on board.
Florida Representative Carlos Gimenez, a Cuban-American and former Miami mayor, has called for an urgent investigation into what he described as a “massacre.” He urged US authorities to determine if any of the victims were US citizens or legal residents.
The incident occurs against a backdrop of rising tensions between the US and Cuba, exacerbated by a fuel crisis in Cuba attributed to US restrictions on oil shipments from Venezuela. The Cuban government emphasized its commitment to protecting its territorial waters and sovereignty following this deadly confrontation.
