On the evening of Friday, 14 March 2025, the Cumberland City Council hosted a vibrant Iftar Celebration at The Granville Centre, bringing together community leaders, dignitaries, and residents to mark the holy month of Ramadan. The event was formally hosted by the Mayor of Cumberland Council, Councillor Ola Hamed, who extended a warm welcome to all attendees.

The Iftar, a key tradition in Ramadan where Muslims break their fast at sunset, provided an opportunity for interfaith dialogue, cultural appreciation, and unity among Cumberland’s diverse community. The event was attended by local officials, community representatives, and media personalities, reinforcing the council’s commitment to inclusivity and multicultural engagement.

Among the notable attendees was Elie Kaltoum, representing Oz Arab Media, a leading platform that continues to amplify voices within the Arab-Australian community. Oz Arab Media’s presence highlighted the significance of such gatherings in strengthening cultural ties and fostering understanding within Australia’s diverse social fabric.

The evening featured traditional Middle Eastern and South Asian dishes, engaging discussions, and moments of reflection on the values of Ramadan—compassion, generosity, and togetherness. Community members from various backgrounds shared their experiences and expressed appreciation for the council’s efforts in promoting multicultural harmony.

Mayor Ola Hamed, in her address, emphasised the importance of unity and mutual respect in Cumberland, one of Sydney’s most culturally rich areas. She acknowledged the contributions of community organisations, local businesses, and media representatives in supporting events that bring people together.

As Cumberland continues to celebrate its diverse community, events like this Iftar reinforce the spirit of inclusivity and shared traditions that make the region a model for multicultural coexistence.
