Digitel has launched its telecommunications network in Aweil, Northern Bahr el Ghazal State, marking a further step in the company’s efforts to expand internet access and mobile connectivity across South Sudan.

The launch was led by Digitel’s head of delegation, Madam Awut, alongside the state governor and other government officials. It brought together company representatives and community members to celebrate improved access to communication services.

Residents welcomed the network’s arrival, expressing hope that it would make it easier to stay connected with family, friends and businesses across the country and abroad. Access to mobile and internet services supports communication through voice calls, messages and video, helping communities overcome geographical barriers.

The celebrations featured traditional Aweil dances, while motorbike riders wearing white Digitel T-shirts took to the streets to mark the occasion.

For Digitel, the launch represents another milestone in its ambition to extend services to communities throughout South Sudan.

In a message to staff, the company’s executive vice president congratulated the team on successfully planning and delivering the launch, with particular recognition for Madam Awut and those working on the ground.

The executive acknowledged the long hours devoted to preparing the network and reaffirmed the company’s ambition to reach every boma in South Sudan. While nationwide coverage would take time, the message emphasised persistence, teamwork and continued investment in expansion.

Digitel’s chief commercial officer also thanked the delegation and local team for their work, expressing confidence in the company’s prospects in Northern Bahr el Ghazal.

The Aweil launch signals an opportunity to strengthen digital connections in the state, with residents looking forward to more accessible communication services as the network develops.
