According to BBC News, global head of football Edu has left Nottingham Forest after just over a year at the City Ground.

The former Arsenal midfielder had not attended a game since February, and his departure had been expected. His contract is believed to have been terminated.

Edu’s role came under scrutiny following a falling-out with Nuno Espirito Santo, who was sacked last September. Nuno was the first of four managers at Forest last season and had indicated that internal tensions existed, saying his relationship with owner Evangelos Marinakis had changed.

Forest are not expected to appoint a replacement. Chief football officer George Syrianos will take on Edu’s responsibilities.

Edu was appointed in July 2025, with a remit that included Greek club Olympiacos and Portuguese side Rio Ave, which are also owned by Marinakis. He joined after six years at Arsenal, where he became the club’s first sporting director in 2022. His exit follows the appointment of former Olympiacos vice-president Theodore Giannikos as Forest chief executive last week.
