According to Allafrica, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and CIA Director John Ratcliffe reaffirmed support for Somalia’s security, stability, sovereignty and territorial integrity during a meeting in Cairo on September 20, 2026.

Egyptian General Intelligence Director Hassan Rashad also attended the talks, which addressed developments in Somalia, Sudan, Gaza and the Horn of Africa. The meeting reflected continued coordination between Egypt and the United States on regional security priorities.

El-Sisi said Egypt fully supports efforts to strengthen security and stability in Somalia, while reiterating Cairo’s categorical rejection of any infringement on the country’s sovereignty or territorial integrity. He described the United States as a key strategic partner for Egypt in political, security and economic spheres.

Ratcliffe expressed appreciation for Egypt’s role in fostering security and stability across Africa. He stressed the importance of continued coordination between Egyptian and U.S. authorities on Somalia, Sudan and international maritime security.

The CIA director also commended Egypt’s role in supporting peaceful settlements to regional crises and noted cooperation between the CIA and Egyptian General Intelligence Service on counterterrorism and combating organized crime. The discussions additionally covered Gaza, Sudan and the Iranian crisis.
