According to ABC News, Essendon recorded its first AFLW win of the 2026 season, overcoming GWS by eight points at Henson Park. The Bombers won 6.7 (43) to 5.5 (35) after the Giants had built a game-high 25-point lead early in the third quarter.
Madison Prespakis drove Essendon’s comeback, collecting 13 disposals, six contested possessions, three clearances and a goal in the third term. She finished with 35 disposals and five clearances, while Maddi Gay had 21 disposals, Georgia Gee had 15, and Steph Wales recorded 20 disposals, 14 hitouts and eight clearances. Daria Bannister put Essendon in front before Emily Gough’s checkside goal sealed the result.
St Kilda remained the AFLW’s only winless team after a 3.13 (31) to 0.1 (1) loss to the Western Bulldogs in Ballarat. The Saints’ lone behind, kicked by Ashleigh Richards in the final 90 seconds, was the club’s lowest AFLW score. Sideways rain and wind affected accuracy, while Rylie Wilcox, Sarah Hartwig and Cleo Buttifant kicked the Bulldogs’ goals. Isabelle Pritchard finished with 35 disposals and six clearances.
Gold Coast claimed its first victory over Brisbane, winning the Q-Clash 5.10 (40) to 3.2 (20). The Lions led by two points at the final change, but the Suns kicked three final-term goals and conceded no further score. Havana Harris kicked two goals as Gold Coast recorded its sixth win of the season and moved to fourth on the ladder.
Port Adelaide also ended a four-match losing run, defeating Adelaide 5.6 (36) to 2.10 (22) in the Showdown at Alberton Oval before a record crowd of 5,441. The Power opened a 34-7 lead with five different goal kickers across the first three quarters, then held on as Caitlin Gould and Teah Charlton kicked Adelaide’s late goals.
