According to ABC News, a 32-year-old man was taken to Geraldton Regional Hospital after a firearm incident on Allen Road in Moonyoonooka, east of Geraldton in Western Australia’s Midwest. Police said they responded to the report at 12:50am and found the man with a gunshot wound. His injuries were described as serious but not life-threatening.

Five people were taken into custody on Hart Street in Utakarra, a Geraldton suburb, at about 10:30am, police said. They are assisting officers with inquiries. The investigation remains ongoing.

Local officers, detectives and Tactical Response Group members were deployed to the area, which is more than 400 kilometres north of Perth. Forensic officers examined a property west of Moonyoonooka-Narra Tarra Road, working near a path and an old bridge. Evidence markers remained on the ground in a police cordon after officers finished collecting material.

Police also blocked Allen Road, while Moonyoonooka-Narra Tarra Road remained open to trucks and local traffic. Authorities had earlier advised people to stay clear of the area and remain vigilant, but said there was no information suggesting an ongoing threat to the wider community.
