According to BBC News, temperatures are set to fall across much of the UK as recent summerlike September warmth gives way to more autumnal weather.

A weather front is expected to move erratically eastwards on Wednesday, bringing outbreaks of rain, with some heavy and thundery downpours. The south-east of England is likely to remain largely dry, allowing temperatures there to reach the mid-20s Celsius. Elsewhere, highs of 14-20C are forecast, close to the late-September average.

Cooler air behind the rain, along with clearing skies and lighter winds on Wednesday night, is expected to bring temperatures back into single figures in many places. Parts of eastern Scotland, particularly around the Grampians, could be cold enough for a coating of frost on grass on Thursday morning.

Thursday should be sunny and dry for much of England and Wales, while strengthening winds bring increasing cloud to north-western areas. Rain is likely later in parts of western Scotland and Northern Ireland, with gales possible in coastal districts.

Temperatures may rise again on Friday, with south-east England likely to reach the mid-20s Celsius. Through the weekend, temperatures are expected to stay near seasonal averages, with showers possible in western areas on Saturday and spells of rain affecting most areas on Sunday. Forecasts for the final days of September indicate a changeable pattern, including occasional rain and potentially windier conditions in northern and western areas.
