According to BBC News, Coco Gauff reached the US Open fourth round with a 6-3 6-4 victory over Spain’s Cristina Bucsa, while fellow Americans Amanda Anisimova and Madison Keys were eliminated. Gauff, the 2023 champion in New York, recovered from a 3-1 first-set deficit and responded immediately after being broken to love in the second set.

The 22-year-old is through to the second week at the US Open for a fifth successive year and has reached the fourth round at a Grand Slam for the 19th time. The 2025 French Open winner has now recorded eight consecutive straight-set WTA Tour-level victories. She will next face 14th seed Iva Jovic, who beat Alexandra Eala 7-5 3-6 7-5 in three hours and three minutes.

Gauff said she was better placed to deal with expectations at her home major than she had been last year, when her tournament ended in the fourth round. “There’s expectations, being American, and I want to do well in front of the fans,” she said. “Last year, I put so much pressure on myself. I’m enjoying the experience out here.”

Keys lost 1-6 7-6 (7-3) 7-5 to China’s Zheng Qinwen after leading 5-0 in the deciding set and missing a match point. The 31-year-old said she became “really scared” and felt she “couldn’t play tennis anymore” in the final set. Last year’s runner-up Anisimova was beaten in straight sets by Russian-born Austrian 24th seed Anastasia Potapova. Five American women remain in the last 16: Gauff, Jovic, Jessica Pegula, Taylor Townsend and Emma Navarro.
