The Australian Lebanese Cultural Union has extended an open invitation to the community to take part in the International Day of the Lebanese Emigrant, a special celebration honouring the global Lebanese diaspora and its deep cultural roots.
The event will take place on Sunday, 15 March 2026, at 10:00 AM at Woodstock Park on Church Street in Burwood, bringing together members of the Lebanese-Australian community, local residents, and leaders from across government and community organisations.
At the heart of the celebration will be an Olive Tree Planting Ceremony, a powerful symbol of peace, resilience, and the enduring connection between Lebanese communities around the world and their homeland. The olive tree has long represented stability, heritage, and continuity in Lebanese culture, making it a meaningful centrepiece for this annual commemoration.
The ceremony will be held in the presence of Dr Ibrahim Constantin, World President of the World Lebanese Cultural Union, alongside diplomats, community leaders, members of parliament, and representatives of local government.
The event is proudly supported by Burwood Council and held under the patronage of the Mayor of Burwood Council, Mr John Faker, highlighting the strong relationship between the Lebanese community and the wider Australian society.
Following the official ceremony, attendees will be invited to stay and enjoy light entertainment, traditional sweets, and refreshments, offering a warm and welcoming opportunity for families, friends, and community members to connect and celebrate together.
Buddy El-Hage, President of the Continental Council – Australia and Oceania, has encouraged members of the community to attend and take part in the meaningful occasion.
“This celebration recognises the journey, contributions, and cultural heritage of Lebanese emigrants around the world,” he noted. “Your presence will help honour our shared roots while celebrating the strong bonds between the Lebanese community and the broader Australian community.”
The event is open to all, and families, friends, and community members are warmly encouraged to attend and be part of this symbolic gathering celebrating heritage, unity, and cultural pride.
